![]() You’ll never guess what happened this morning! One of the employees of Tabs the Cat Industries LLC said that they saw a rainbow in front of the office, so Tabs grabbed his St. Patrick’s Day commemorative cat collar and darted outside. There it was! A rainbow. ? And what did he find at the end of it? You’ll never guess! Yeah — gold! Lots of it! I mean it makes purr-fect sense. Tabs always has had the luck o’ the Irish. ☘️ Now it’s just a question of figuring out to do with all that money. Hmm… Tabs has wanted to do some investing in space ? tourism, so he’s definitely going to do that, but he plans to anonymously donate most of it to several cat shelters around the United States. ![]() Hello and happy Caturday!!! If you ever need shelter from the metaphorical storm, might I suggest Marshalls? — because every time I go there, I find so many cute kitty-themed things. I went a couple days ago, and these blank kitty cards were soooo tempting, but I already have an entire drawer filled with cat steno that I need to work my way through… I also really wanted the kitty toothbrush holder at the top, but I passed because it had a slight chip in one ear. ? Oh, and then there were these cute jars, too… Ah, so much cuteness! I might go back later today so see if any of these are still there, but I’m not holding out hope because you know how Marshalls is. If you snooze, you lose! You can literally turn around, and something you just saw on the shelf a minute ago will have disappeared. But I digress… Breakfast. It’s calling me, and I need to take care of that, so while I go do that, here’s some light reading to keep you occupied. Let’s discover new makeup! El Hub is always in awe of the time I can spend in the bathroom, because seriously…I’m in there for a looooong time. ? One time he even knocked on the door and asked if I’d fallen into the toilet because I’d literally been in there for hours. So yeah, if you need me, I’ll be in the… Ha ha ha! El baño. It’s great because nobody bothers me in there. I can have some privacy. Sometimes after I put Connor down for the night, I’ll shower, do some reading and, lately, have a mini spa sesh. Speaking of that…have you peeped this new line of Aruveyda-inspired body products from Malavara? A luxury body care line, Malavara was started by Tejal Engman and Alexandra Turner, two gals who worked high-stress jobs on the trading floor for JP Morgan. They bonded over their love for alternative therapies, including Aruveyda, one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems. It was developed in India over 3,000 ago (!). via https://ift.tt/2Cl56B5 ![]() This cream for face and body soothes fussy skin. It’s approved for use on infants, children and adults, too. Excellent for red, dry, irritated and sensitive skin. A real hidden gem! This cream has a weird name… Avène XeraCalm A.D Lipid-Replenishing Cream. Don’t expect that to roll off your tongue when your friend asks you for a mega moisturizer recommendation for super sensitive, dry, flaky and/or irritated skin while you’re attacking a basket of the epic, legendary brown bread at The Cheesecake Factory. Side note, you’re welcome… ? But I digress… Initially, I bought XeraCalm face and body cream, which is $34 for a 6.76-oz. tube, for Connor. Poor thing gets these raised patches of red, itchy, flaky dry skin in winter, and this cream is the only over-the-counter product that soothes her discomfort and completely removes the dry spots. And it works fast! Whenever she gets a bout of irritated skin and we use this, she’s back to her normal non-itchy self in a day. From aveneusa.com: “Rich, lipid-replenishing cream directly targets itching, redness and irritation to nourish and restore skin prone to atopic dermatitis and eczema. via https://ift.tt/2T95TKS ![]() These creamy, lightweight lippies feel like a mad makeup scientist’s ?? creative combo of a balm and a lipstick, and they come in natural lip tones. I’ve been so inspired lately by “there but not obviously there” makeup and “makeup for no-makeup makeup lovers…” I don’t know if any of that made any sense at all, ha ha! ? I haven’t had enough coffee ☕ yet, but y’all know what I’m talking about. I’m talking about noticeable products with decent coverage that aren’t necessarily pedal-to-the-metal intense. The $18 Fleshy Lips Lipsticks by Flesh fit purr-fectly into that lane. They’re lightweight and glossy medium-coverage lippies a la Clinique’s iconic Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, only slightly more intense, and they’re available in lots of your-lips-but-better shades. They’re the kind of sheer-ish lipsticks you’d wear with mascara, tinted moisturizer and cream blush, and the type of tube you stick in your pocket when you’re going to lunch and shopping with a girlfriend. My lip freckles peek through when I’m wearing them, but the tint is still noticeable. If you’re wearing one and bump into a buddy who knows a thing or two about makeup, he or she might ask, “Hey, what’s that YLBB lipstick?” OK, but what’s the scent situation, you may be wondering? Who said beauty dreams ? don’t come true?! To summarize, I love this stuff. I know I’ve talked about it at length, but in case you missed it…this $28 makeup removing cleansing oil is the real deal. It makes everything, even waterproof and long-wearing mascara and liner, instantly melt away. Also, it doesn’t cloud up my vision, which is an annoying side effect some other cleansing oils have. Oh, yeah, and ALSO, because you only need to use one pump, a bottle will last for months. I have textbook combo skin, and this oil doesn’t give me breakouts or make my cheeks feel tight. I think it works faster than Fresh Seaberry Skin Nutrition Cleansing Oil, and it’s not as drying as Neutrogena Ultra Light Face Cleansing Oil & Makeup Remover. Even though shopping online is so easy to do now, sometimes I just wanna run into a store and get something. Yay! Now I have another reason to “just run in” whenever I’m near an Ulta. It’s REALLY powerful! This occurred to me last week while conducting the “just one thing” experiment. I realized that applying blush on a bare face was one of the things that made the biggest impact. Every beauty article ever written on blush basically says the same thing — that blush makes you look healthy and vibrant — but like, really, when you don’t have other stuff going on with your makeup and your face is otherwise bare, you can REALLY see just how powerful blush is. Yeah, I’ve been loving on my blush a little extra lately. ? I have a couple new favorites, and they’re from a brand called Flesh, which is the line by Allure magazine founder Linda Wells (launched last summer and available at Ultar), and the powder blushes are bomb! I’ve been going back and forth between Caress, which is a matte tan/warm brown (almost looks like a bronzer), and Glaze, which is a deep reddish coral with subtle gold shimmer. I’ve had extremely dry skin for a couple weeks because of winter, and because I’ve been using a retinol at night, but when I wear these powder blushes, which are ridiculously smooth, I can’t even see the dry patches. I could actually put my arms down without feeling like Randy from A Christmas Story in his snowsuit. Every person I ran into yesterday said something along the lines of, “The sun is out! Let us bow down and worship it!” Yeah, I’m exaggerating, but we Californians are nuts. ? It wasn’t quite warm enough to wear sandals outside yet (unless you’re one of those dudes who wears Tevas in a snowstorm), but the Coywolf and I still stopped to smell the flowers and the new spring shoes as DSW. I love tennies with cute animal prints, and there were plenty of puppy patterns for all the #crazydogladies. Are dressy flip-flops a thing? Because they should be. These Kate Spade slippers fit the bill. I like them, but I can’t spend $70 an a pair of fancy flip-flops, ya know? Continue reading "Dreaming of Spring at DSW" on Makeup and Beauty Blog. via https://ift.tt/2EXrwsq ![]() I’ve been doing some form or fashion of a chunky braid for the last month because it’s the only way I’ve been able to tolerate my hair. I’m way overdue for a cut, but I’ve been putting it off because I keep getting the urge to chop it off into a short, spunky bob. Although I feel like I’m walking around with 20 pounds of hair on my head, I don’t want to do anything drastic or spur-of-the-moment, so I’m making myself wait! So yeah. Not only does the chunky braid (or CB, as I like to call it) lift the hair off my shoulders and keep it out of my eyes, but it also tames the wayward silvers at my hairline and weaves the color of my natural hair into the colored bits in a way that isn’t jarring. For me, it’s an oftentimes underrated makeup morsel, a permanent collection product that scoots under the radar screen of many makeup lovers but regularly rocks my world. The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorites. Dear beauty industry people…just stop, collaborate and listen. Enough with the attached sponge applicators already! The sponges get all thick and nasty, and then when I press them against my skin, there’s a weird sucking sound, like “thhhmeeeeeeee,” which is the makeup equivalent of someone saying the word “moist” repeatedly. MOIST, MOIST, MOIST. It’s super, super gross. The attached sponge applicator is the only thing I don’t like about the otherwise awesome Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. I would prefer one of ye olde standard-issue doe-foot applicators, buuuuuut since this concealer is only $10, and it’s available in a nice shade range, and it’s practically a drugstore dupe for the much pricier Charlotte Tilbury under-eye concealer, which I’ve used to the very last drop, I put up with it, because seriously, WHATCHAGONNADO? You can’t spend all your time and energy fighting city hall. *shrugs* Anyway, this concealer is fantastic for women (and dudes… More on this in a second.) who have fine under-eye experience lines, and who also like a decent amount of coverage but don’t feel the need to go full-tilt, so FYI, Tarte Shape Tape, MAC Pro Longwear and Sephora Bright Future Gel Concealer it is not; however, if you like light-to-medium coverage (a la Hourglass Veil Retouching Fluid, which I’ve grown to love, or Tatcha Softlight), it’s magic in a click pen, because the concealer never appears caked-on or thick when applied to mature skin with lines. via https://ift.tt/2SUVBOo |
